Ground war: drivers deliver trouble to FedEx by seeking employee benefits

Article Abstract:

The practice at express delivery service FedEx and its subsidiary FedEx Ground of hiring contract workers as drivers of its trucks is discussed. A case brought by FedEx drivers against the company raises issues long confronted by U.S. firms that prefer to hire independent contractors rather than employees for whom they are required to provide benefits such as health care, paid leave, and pensions.

FedEx net soars; strong global economy is forecast

Article Abstract:

Fed Ex Corp. of the United States posted a stellar 40 percent increase in first quarter profit to $475 million from $339 million last year. Strong revenues were due to a 17 percent surge in international air cargo and a 13 percent increase in ground shipments. Increased exports from China also indicated growth in the global economy.

FedEx posts stronger net profit, expects economy to stay strong

Article Abstract:

FedEx Corp. of the United States posted a soaring 27 percent increase in profit for the fourth quarter and financial projections for the future are bright. Revenues are due to growth of volumes and seem to be largely unaffected by spiraling gasoline prices.
