Short seasons cut short wages

Article Abstract:

Newfoundland-based Fish, Food and Allied Workers' Union is protesting against the crab raw material sharing system being imposed by the regional government. The drop in snow crab season has resulted in greater unemployment in the region and the incomes of these fishermen are now made up of 55% coming from unemployment insurance. The cheaper processing in China has only added to the woes. Earle McCurdy, president of the union presents his opinion on the way quotas and licenses should be utilized in the given scenario.
