Guerilla law

Article Abstract:

Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) guerrillas control part of Colombia around San Victente, from where the army has been withdrawn by the government to facilitate an agreement with the guerrillas. FARC has attacked a naval base near the border between Colombia and Panama, and critics argue that the withdrawal of the army has given FARC too much power. There are complaints of FARC's recruiting tactics from families who have lost members. FARC has support in many rural areas, though not from businessmen and ranchers.

Offensive

Article Abstract:

The Colombian government is seeking an agreement with guerillas from the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), which opposes a ceasefire and sees a peace agreement as likely to take some years to achieve. The FARC has attacked a paramilitary base and was in turn attacked by the Colombian army, which lost 35 of its forces, while 23 guerrillas may have been killed. The paramilitaries have been defended and their leader saved by the army twice in seven months.
