Article Abstract:
The two international hotel chains Marriot and Inter Continental compete about the construction of a centrally located new hotel at Kalvebod Brygge in Copenhagen. The hotel will total 365 rooms and congress facilities for 500 persons. In connection with the hotel, the Danish mortgage lending institute Nykredit will build new office premises, totalling 17,000 square metres. In all, investments will total DKr 603mn (USD 90mn).

Hotel capacity in Copenhagen is insufficient, compared with e.g. Stockholm, which is a major competitor as regards tourists and conferences. This is the conclusion of a study by the real estate broker Sadolin & Albaek. There are 3,000 more hotel rooms in Stockholm than in Copenhagen, even though Copenhagen has more inhabitants. In 1997, capacity utilisation was 75% in Copenhagen, compared with 65% in Stockholm.

Article Abstract:
The first new luxury hotel in Copenhagen in the last 30 years is to be built at Copenhagen Airport. It will be operated by Hilton, and taken into operation by the end of the year 2000. The new luxury hotel will include 382 rooms. Construction work will be done by the Danish construction companies Monberg & Thorsen and H Hoffmann & S nner. The project is estimated at DKr 350mn (USD 52mn).
