Hafnia's own goal: Danish insurance

Hafnia, Denmark's second biggest insurer, has gotten involved in a couple of shady shares deals that could cost the company $60 million. News of the scams came out right before the company was supposed to launch a rights issue that was expected to raise millions more.

Scrapping over Skandia: Nordic insurance

Denmark's Hafnia and Norway's UNI want to control the Scandinavian insurance industry. Sweden's Scandia, however, is bigger than both and hopes its anti-takeover activities will force the others to negotiate on favorable terms.

Hafnia Holding A/S and UNI Storebrand A/S failed in their attempt to bid for control of Skandia Insurance Company Ltd. Skandia is now trying to buy financially troubled Hafnia.
