Halifax names Crosby to head mortgage lender

Article Abstract:

Halifax PLC of the UK appointed James Crosby as its new chief executive to replace Mike Blackburn who will move on to the position of vice chairman until his retirement at the end of 1999. Crosby had previously been the head of the general insurance and financial services operations. Crosby believes that he needs to make Halifax a more cost-effective mortgage lending bank which will maintain its strength in distribution. However, Crosby may adopt a stronger corporate approach compared to its current dynamic energy and pace.
