Hands across the water

Article Abstract:

Compagnie Generale des Eaux is a conglomerate corporation which is expanding, unlike many conglomerates, which are seeking to slim down to core activities. The company is headed by Jean-Marie Messier who has reduced the work force by 10%, sold real estate, cable TV broadcasting and health care assets, and made acquisitions in communications and waste management. He sees the company's future as relation to communications, environment and construction, and activities not related to these activities will be disposed of.

He feels that CWS has now been reduced to its core activities, although trading profit could still be higher. He is focusing on providing more assertive management, although he still wishes to retain the organisation's ethical values.
