Adam Opel AG, the German arm of General Motors, sponsored an in-house tournament, called the Opel World Cup, to boost the morale of its employees and to encourage them to take an active role in company activities. The German automaker, a leading World Cup sponsor, said it wants its employees to have some fun through sports. According to Opel executives, they spend for the tournaments of employees for they also want their football sponsorship to go beyond the presence of the company's logo on stadium billboards and jerseys of leading European club.

Daimler to offer buyouts to some Chrysler workers

DaimlerChrysler AG of Germany is to offer buyout packages to some employees valued at $70,000 to $100,000 as it restructures its United States unit. The automobile giant plans to cut 11,000 plant worker jobs to turnaround its finance by 2008. DaimlerChrysler AG is talking to Chery Automobile Co. of China about a potential merger.

DaimlerChrysler is close to target of 8,500 job cuts

Article Abstract:

DaimlerChrysler AG of Germany is seeking 8,500 voluntary resignations at its Mercedes unit, currently, it has reached 7,800. The automobile giant has budgeted 950 million Euros ($1.17 billion) for the job cuts. DaimlerChrysler AG is downsizing due to decreasing revenue and quality control issues.
