Hellenic Army to procure new scouts, VSHORADs

Article Abstract:

The Greek government has authorized the procurement of 350 to 400 scout vehicles for the Hellenic Army. The vehicles, which are equipped with television cameras, high-capacity radios, GPS navigation systems, laser designators and infrared systems, are in addition to an earlier order for 23 Panhard VBL 4X4 light armored scout vehicles. Greece's General Armaments Directorate has also asked for information regarding the Army's very short-range air defense system program.

Hellenic Air Force orders Cougars as F-16 Block 52+ production starts

Article Abstract:

Eurocopter has signed a $58.3-million contract with the Armaments General Directorate of the Hellenic Ministry of Defense for the delivery of four AS 532U2 Cougar Mk 2 helicopters that includes an option for two more. To be delivered in late 2002 or early 2003, the new helicopters will feature extensive mission equipment, including the Thales NADIR Mk 2 navigation system/SAGEM 155 autopilot, Bendix 1500B radar, Thales Chilo FLIR, Spectrolab searchlight and a 272-kg capacity hoist.

Hellenic Navy in quest for new strike craft

Article Abstract:

Elefsis Shipyards S.A. has received a contract from the Hellenic Navy to build three fast attack craft which are slated to go into service after 2000. However, the navy is reviewing offers from foreign shipyards to become the main sub-contractor for the $268 mil project due to the inexperience of the main contractor in constructing small displacement vessels. The sub-contractor, which will be chosen from CMN, Lurssen and Vosper Thornycroft, will provide technical assistance for the said project.
