Statistical origins and concepts of point scoring: 200 years old!

Article Abstract:

The term 'point scoring techniques' in the area of customer applications and credit reports may be recent in origin, but the methods are not new. Statistical studies are all based on essentially the same concepts, and the statistical methods utilized in development of point scoring systems have existed for over two centuries. Three steps statisticians take to estimate corresponding population values and confidence levels are: (1) taking random samples of equal size from the same populations, (2) making statistical inferences, and (3) performing significance tests. Payment predictability can only be inferred when sampling statistics are drawn from a sample of adequate size. A summary of statistical procedures needed to develop a point scoring system is presented.
