Hidden talents

Article Abstract:

An exhibition at the Cheltenham Museum and Art Gallery, England, 'Good Workmanship with Happy Thought,' celebrates the work of Alfred and Louise Powell. The couple were part of the Arts and Crafts movement and, although principally known for their pottery, Alfred also was an architect and Louise an embroiderer and calligrapher. They also worked with Ernest Gimson and the Barnsleys as furniture decorators. Alfred's houses are not well-known, but he designed several houses using local traditions and materials.
