Hitting the ground running

Article Abstract:

UK tour operator Thomson International believes in the importance of people issues in acquisition activity. The company sought diligently to understand these issues when it was considering the acquisition of Swedish tour operator Fritidsresor. The process included investigation of management competencies, and of corporate and local cultures. It provided insight into issues including effective use of Fritidsresor personnel after acquisition, and how best to manage cultural differences and make changes. It enabled Thomson to implement an operational plan immediately after acquisition.

No business like snow business

Article Abstract:

A chance conversation allowed BZW Private Equity to be involved in the 150 million pounds sterling buyout of Jetsave and Crystal Holidays from Viad Corp at a very early stage. The deal was mainly driven by the absence of niche operators in the middle sector of the UK tour operating industry. The merger of Crystal Holidays with Jetsave will bring considerable cost savings. BZW is most likely to seek an exit through a sale to one of the UK's leading tour operators.

Article Abstract:

A polarisation of Yorkshire's mergers and acquisitions (M&A) market seems set to continue, although no-one seems clear as to why this should be. There is a predominance of public-to-private deals but few transactions occupy the middle ground. An analysis of the M&A market in Yorkshire is presented.
