Article Abstract:

Constitutional compromises were reached on Aug 22, 1992 by prime minister Brian Mulroney, native leaders and provincial premiers. The compromises satisfy the interests of all parties, such as Quebec's demand to be recognized as a 'distinct society,' but ratification is still uncertain.

Article Abstract:

A referendum designed to end Canada's constitutional crisis was soundly defeated. The no vote was apparently part of a revolt against the agreement's authors plus resentment against Quebec's special status. It got more no votes in the Western provinces than it did in Quebec.
