On-line newspaper publishers like Knight-Ridder and the Los Angeles Times are banking on the continued growth of home personal computing, and on delivery via user-friendly services such as America Online, Compuserve and Prodigy. However, several problems, including setting advertising rates, remain.

Richard Desmond's 'adult' titles, tabloids and the celebrity lifestyle magazine 'OK' are buoyant, but his efforts to gain respectability with the 'Daily Express' have been less successful. However, Desmond plans to stick with the 'Express', buy further national titles and sell his 'adult' titles.
