In the weeks leading up to the Christmas holiday, bank underwriters are introducing a series of initial public offerings. Such a surge in stock offerings is not usual for this time of year, but what is notable is the nature of some of the companies involved. The article discusses the standing of coal industry stocks and an initial public offering being planned by Foundation Coal Holdings Inc.

BAE's takeover of Armor aids ground-vehicle aims

British defense contractor BAE Systems PLC has agreed to acquire US firm Armor Holdings Inc. for approximately $88 per share, a deal totaling $4.1 bil. The agreement strengthens BAE's presence in the US and bolsters its military ground vehicles segment.
