Honda sets charge for unit

Article Abstract:

Honda Motor Co. will take a one-time charge on its troubled European operation because of unfavorable currency swings. The company is also forecasting an operating loss of 50 billion yen ($407.6 million) on its European operation for the year ending March 31, versus a loss of 14 billion yen in 2000. A special loss of 81.56 billion yen will be posted this year because of the losses in Europe.

Toyota will buy back stock

Article Abstract:

Japanese auto maker Toyota Motor Corp. will purchase up to $2.1 billion of its own stock by late March in order to avoid share sales of its stock by banks and insurers. Approximately 75 million shares will be bought on the open market and paid for by company profits.
