The increasing number of working women who favor functional items and have less time to prepare food continues to pose a threat to the Italian housewares market. The mature housewares market demonstrated growth of under 1% in 1994. The dominant sector in the industry was glassware although sales dropped by 2% in 1994. The sector that exhibited the only significant growth was metal housewares, which increased value sales by 34% since 1990. Market outlook was discussed.
