Housing and land in Israel and The Netherlands: a comparison of policies and their consequences for access to housing

Article Abstract:

Israel and the Netherlands both pursue a policy for housing and for land and land use. In both countries, access to housing is very sensitive to the availability of land, as population density is high. In the Netherlands, the conditions for building and housing are quite uniform, but this is not the case at all in Israel, where some areas are unsuitable for housing. A comparison of approaches to housing and land in these countries indicates that national ideology can have a significant impact. In turn, this has an indirect impact on access to housing.
