How an AT and T deal died in a turf war at Telecom Italia

Article Abstract:

Telecom Italia S.p.A.'s new chairman, Glen Mario Rossignolo, opted to pursue an alliance with Cable and Wireless PLC and forego the firm's initial plans to forge a partnership with AT and T Corp. Telecom Italia's past management team negotiated for eight months to create with AT and T a partnership, which is seen as a means for elevating Telecom Italia into the global market for telecommunications services. The failure of the planned alliance with AT and T was blamed on a power struggle between Telecom Italia's leading executives.
