Iberia to order 11 Airbus Aircraft

Article Abstract:

Iberia Airlines of Spain will announce on Sep. 22, 1998, its plan to order 11 A340 Airbus jetliners from Airbus Industrie, according to a source close to the deal. The deal, which also includes jet engines, will cost Iberia 200 billion pesetas or $1.39 billion. However, Iberia is expected to receive a discount from Airbus, a European consortium of Spanish, French, German and British aviation companies. Iberia's deal with Airbus is reportedly part of its attempt to improve its existing DC-10 fleet of jets and raise its long-distance traffic by 50% in 1999.
