IBM enters $16 billion pact with Dell in largest PC-equipment supply deal

Article Abstract:

International Business Machines Corp. (IBM) announced that it has reached a $16 billion deal with Dell Computer Corp. for the supply of computer components. IBM, under the seven-year agreement, will provide Dell with components for its machines. IBM will be supplying such items as disk drives, chips, network attachments, and monitors. Both companies' officials said that the agreement could lead to additional supply deals in the future.

ASML gets Samsung, Motorola orders and says chip industry may rebound

Article Abstract:

ASM Lithography NV (ASML) has been awarded two orders from Samsung Corp. and Motorola Inc. The orders could mean the beginning of the random-access memory chip market. The orders are valued at 300 million guilders and 350 million guilders ($152.9 million and $178.4 million). Dutch-based ASML manufactures semiconductor equipment. Samsung's order alone amounts to 200 million guilders to 250 million guilders.
