INDIAN SCIENTISTS DEVELOP NUKE DETECTOR FOR EUROPEAN LAB

Article Abstract:

Scientists of Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics (SINP) and Variable Energy Cyclotron Centre (VECC) in India have developed a nuclear detector for the particle physics laboratory, CERN, in Geneva. This will help recreate conditions of matter similar to what existed at the beginning of the universe. The detector was fabricated at VECC in association with several universities and national institutes. Fitted in the large hardon collider (LHC), it will detect shining light particles that emerge from a collision of 2 atomic nuclei. It can also find clues to the fundamental constituents of matter such as quarks and gluons which are inside protons and neutrons. (uh)
