IRI closure date

Article Abstract:

IRI will close by mid-2000 despite media reports, according to an unidentified senior official at the Italian state holding corporation. Chmn Gian Maria Gros-Pietro told Il Sole-24 Ore, a business newspaper, that he anticipated transferring IRI's remaining interests in Italian ferry company Tirrenia and state broadcasting corporation RAI to its shareholder, Treasury.

This article details plans by Italy's government-owned holding company, Istituto per la Ricostruzione Industriale (IRI), to divest itself of its interests through privatization and terminate operations. Difficulties and delays confronting IRI's divestment of Autostrade and SEA, the government-run turnpike and airport operators respectively, are detailed.
