Improving Indochina: former iNdochina is taking advantage of a more stable economy

Article Abstract:

Competition for new terminal developments is taking place in the three capital cities of former Indochina, namely, Hanoi in Vietnam, Phnom Penh in Cambodia and Vientiane in Laos. Hanoi's new terminal is virtually complete, with a passenger capacity of 6.5 million. Phnom Penh has unveiled a new US$35 million passenger terminal and US$110 million runway in 1997, for completion in 1999. Laos is the only one among the three to have brand-new facilities.

Berlin tegel tops up capacity

Article Abstract:

Berlin Brandenburg Flughafen Holdings is planning to invest DM100 million to expand its newly acquired Tegel airport. The airport was designed in 1974 to handle 5.5 million passengers a year and to accomodate aircraft like the Boeing 737. The expansion will be moderate until the opening of the new airport in Schonefeld in 2007, with a capacity of 7.5 million passengers, and will have a charter air terminal.

Gulf airports look for niche markets

Gulf states' airports have exerted efforts over the past 10 years to boost their competitiveness following the emergence of open skies, airport privatization, tough competition for hub traffic and new airlines. Rivaling Dubai for international business, Bahrain International airport has implemented an ambitious marketing plan to sustain its position as a leading air hub.
