In Afghanistan, heroin trade soars despite U.S. aid

Afghanistan has become the world's largest producer and exporter of the illegal drug heroin, questioning the tenuous democracy. The drug has a direct line into Europe where the price of a hit has tumbled to 3 Euros on the streets of Hamburg, Germany. Opium exports earned Afghanistan $2.7 billion which accounts for 52 percent of the gross domestic product ($5.2 billion).
