In London, high finance may get a new watchdog

Article Abstract:

The United Kingdom Home Office is considering joining the smaller City of London police force with the Metropolitan Police Service, also known as Scotland Yard. The restructuring is to better fight terrorism, white collar crime and organized crime. Currently, it seems like police services are dissipated, as if they are "all working on the same broth."

British spy probe turns to emigres

The investigation into the poisoning death of former Russian spy Alexander Litvinenko in London on November 23rd from polonium 210 continues. Mr. Litvinenko was an associate of the prominent Russian exile Boris Berezovsky, a critic of President Vladimir Putin. London and the United Kingdom has become the home of many Russian elite emigres.

As London firm shuts down, worries spread to American home loans made back in 2005

Britain's Caliber Global Investment Ltd., a unit of Cambridge Place Investment Management LLP, has closed due to poor performance on mortgage backed securities in the US homeowner market. Caliber has lost 53% of its value since it listed in June 2005; approximately $900 mil will be returned to investors over the next 12 months.
