At UBS, how long will Ospel hang in? Swiss titan posts loss, confirms write-downs exceeding $18 billion

Article Abstract:

Fourth-quarter net loss for Swiss bank UBS AG totaled $11.23 bil, including a write-down of $13.7 bil on investments linked to US subprime mortgages. This is UBS's first full-year net loss since 1997. Ethos, a Swiss activist shareholder, has called for the firm to examine a replacement for Marcel Ospel, who has significant operational influence as chairman.

J.P. Morgan Chase and Co. of the United States has posted $2.4 billion for 3rd quarter revenue that blew out forecasts. James Dimon the Chief-Executive-in-waiting has seen a strong rally by investors in a year that has been a rollercoaster for securities and revenue performance for the banking giant.
