In bondage

Article Abstract:

South Korea is undergoing an economic recovery, but there is still a need for reforms. The government bond market is underdeveloped and has little power to set interest rates, which creates problems for bond traders. Rates are kept low and the government does not want to borrow by issuing bonds, since it does not want to raise interest rates. The Bank of Korea carries some government debt, using money market operations. The government has invested in bank rescues, and drops in bond prices would hit the banks.
