Additional data on the shooting of President Kennedy

Article Abstract:

A physician presents his analysis of John F. Kennedy's assassination. Two frequently raised questions about the shooting are why his head moved back if he was shot from the rear and did one bullet wound both President Kennedy and Governor Connally. The Zapruder film shows that the President's head first moved forward after the impact of the bullet. The forward ejection of the brain matter then drove the head backward and to the left. Muscle reflexes and nervous impulses also caused the body to jerk backwards. Examination of bullet 399, which is thought to have wounded both Kennedy and Connally, shows that it is deformed, not pristine. Furthermore, it is bent and compressed in a manner consistent with bullets retrieved from simulations of the assassination. The small size of the exit wound on the front of the President's neck is explained by the tightness of his shirt collar, which acted to buttress the wound edges.
