In-car entertainment

Article Abstract:

The in-car entertainment markets in France, Italy, Germany, Spain and the UK continue to achieve spectacular growth rates now that consumers no longer view in-car audio products as luxury items. Likewise, the industry, which is divided into the line-fit and aftermarket sectors, continues to see the advent of new technology such as the MiniDisc, DCC and radio data systems. Meanwhile, major suppliers such as Aiwa, Blaupunkt-Werke GmbH, Grundig AG, JVC and Philips are working to develop new audio innovations for in-car entertainment.

The German in-car entertainment market

Article Abstract:

The German market for in-car entertainment systems has been declining as a result of lower demand for new cars and consumer electronics. The market started to shrink in value terms in 1992 although volume sales began to decrease only in 1994, which is indicative of the falling prices of car radiocassette players, car radios and CD players. The in-car entertainment market is dominated by radiocassette players in terms of volume and value. The leader in the market remains to be Blaupunkt.

Audio products in Spain

Article Abstract:

The audio products market in Spain declined in value by 15% to Ptas 40,830 million despite an 8% volume growth between 1998 and 1992. The decline, which was also reflected in the production side, is due to competitive retail prices. The market, which may be divided into stand alones, portables and separates, saw the largest growth in the CD player category of the stand-alone product sector. At present, it is dominated by Sony, Sanyo, Philips, Panasonic and Aiwa.
