India's FACT emerges from bit role to challenge Western software makers

Article Abstract:

An accounting program for updating ledgers on a real-time basis and a wise business move to target the Singaporean market have enabled India's FACT Software International Pte. Ltd. to find its own niche in the highly competitive software market. FACT posted 2.6 million Singaporean dollars in revenues in 1994, the bulk of which came from Singapore and Malaysia. FACT's success is considered a major achievement among Asian companies, as only a handful of firms in the region have dared to venture outside their local markets due to lack of financial support and marketing expertise.

Taiwan bureaucrats must learn to help, not hinder

Article Abstract:

Taiwan has to overhaul its inefficient bureaucracy if it is to achieve its goal of becoming a mecca for multinationals. The country has long fostered a bureaucratic system that lacks effective leadership and rewards indecisiveness. On the other hand, officials who try to make things better for the business community face the danger of being punished for taking the initiative. One exception, however, is the opposition mayor of Taipei who has brought new hope to a seemingly ungovernable city.

Singapore's drawing power as a regional hub is growing as firms tap Southeast Asian lode

Article Abstract:

Many multinational companies such as Whirlpool Corp. and Otis Elevator Co. have established their Asian headquarters in Singapore. Analysts believe that Singapore's transformation as primary business hub will continue, mirroring the growth of Hong Kong in the late 1970s and early 1980s. They noted that Singapore's strategic location at the center of Asia, coupled with the government's business incentive programs, have bolstered the country's position as an ideal business location.
