Indonesian stocks tremble under weight of politics

Article Abstract:

Indonesian stocks have been dropping in value in response to the political uncertainty in the country brought about by several events. Among these are the death of Pres. Suharto's wife, who has been a major influence in his political career, the violence that marred a protest rally by the opposition and Suharto's travel to Germany for health check-up. The political risk factor is exacerbated by concerns about the health of the economy.

New type of buyer may irk convertible bond investors

Article Abstract:

Financial experts report that the rise of Asian convertible-bond issue buyers will complicate convertible-bond trading. The buyers promote poor liquidity by purchasing and trading the equity and bond components of bank issues separately. Experts, who advice investors to hold bonds bought during initial offerings until maturity or conversions, stress that the new practice will weaken investor interest in convertible-bonds.
