Syria appears to have encouraged Fatah to increase its strength among Palestinians in Lebanon, and has then clamped down on them. Palestinians have lived as refugees in Lebanon for some 50 years, and have been discriminated against in employment, and have even been prevented from gaining access to building materials for their homes. The Lebanese civil war was triggered by Palestinian guerrillas taking over part of the south of Lebanon. Sultan Abdul Ainan is a Palestinian who has been sentenced to death for setting up a militia.

Abdullah's little revolution in Jordan

Article Abstract:

King Abdullah of Jordan has carried out a crackdown on Hamas, which had become a force in Jordanian politics. Meanwhile, the Muslim Brotherhood has expelled sympathisers of Hamas following an internal election which led to victories for moderates. This means that the government's relations with the Muslim Brotherhood have become easier. Over the longer term, the Palestinians will have to be permitted to organize freely, and the government appears to be ambivalent on this issue.
