Former Mitsukoshi CEO Keiichiro Iwase is challenging the company to provide information about the investment of the company of 59 billion yen on a golf course that was never built during the 1980s. Current executives claim the money has been written off and information about the blunder should remain unknown.

The new head of Japan's Financial Reconstruction Commission, Hideyuki Aizawa, is perceived by some as resisting change in financial policy. The opposition, which has caused the Nikkei stock average to fall 11.08 points, is bad news for Prime Minister Mori.

Japan will buy 1.96 billion euros in debt in Sogo bankruptcy

Article Abstract:

The Deposit Insurance Corp. of Japan said it would purchase 197.6 billion yen (1.96 billion euros) worth of loans given to Sogo Co. by Shinsei Bank. Deposit Insurance also said that it would forgo 97 billion yen of the debt.
