Invensys issues profit warning, plans to cut thousands of jobs

United Kingdom's electronics automation and computer-aided design software firm Invensys PLC expects lower profit for the first six months of the year and plans to reduce its labor force. Following the announcement Invensys reported a 36% drop in its stock price.

Racal's pretax profit plummets by 40%

Pretax profits fell 40% to 23.4 million pounds sterling for Racal Electronics PLC, as the company continues searching for ways to pare its operations down. Racal's chairman indicated that the company's defense division could be sold off in the near future, leaving Racal with only its transportation-services and industrial-electronics operations.

Sharp lifts forecasts following surge in group profit

Sharp Corp. posted an almost fourfold increase in its group net profits for the six-month period ending September 30, 1999. The company posted 11.53 billion yen (105.5 million euros) for the period.
