Investment-bank growth? Venture's NatWest deal may expand industry

Article Abstract:

The Industrial and Commercial Bank of China and the Bank of East Asia Ltd. of Hong Kong have agreed to form a joint venture to purchase the Asian equities and other businesses of NatWest Markets. The deal, which is seen by analysts as a trend of expansion in the Chinese investment banking industry, will amount to some $17 million in premium book value according to a company executive. The deal will allow the firm entry into the underwriting market recently vacated by Peregrine Investment Holdings Ltd.

Article Abstract:

Merger and acquisition boutiques are currently successful and this has been highlighted by Gartmore's decision to appoint Pheonix Securities as its advisor to the sale of a stake in UK fund manager held by Banque Indosuez. Phoenix has also advised Smith New Court of the UK, a broker, during its acqusition by Merrill Lynch of the US an investment banks. Hambro Magan of the UK, an m&a boutique, has recently advised SBC on its purchase of SG Warburg.

Enskilda allies with Blackstone

Article Abstract:

Enskilda of Sweden, an investment bank, and part of the SE Banken group, is to link with Blackstone Group of Wall Street, an advisory boutique, to offer crosss border M&A advisory services between the US and Scandinavia. Enskilda already advises on deals between Scandinavia and the UK, Germany, France and Benelux.
