Is the joint venture dead in Russia?

Article Abstract:

Foreign companies no longer have to enter Russia markets via joint ventures. Western firms are increasingly acquiring shares in Russian companies under the privatisation programme, or are buying shares in Russian firms from Russian banks. Some believe entry by joint venture is no longer a consideration for most companies, particularly as the most profitable ventures are proving the hardest to operate with Russian partners. Gas and oil companies will continue to focus on joint ventures, however, with several deals already signed.

Joint venturing in Yugoslavia: twenty years of liberalization

Article Abstract:

Foreign investment in Yugoslav joint ventures is now 20 years old. The rules have been increasingly liberalised, although in practice forex problems often intervene. The USA is the largest source, with average ownership about one quarter. Investment has been mainly in metals and chemicals, but may shift to tourism. Foreign partners report no problems of managerial control nor expropriation threats, though profit repatriation remains very unsatisfactory.
