Islamic banking grows, with all sorts of rules

Article Abstract:

The banking industry of the Middle East is growing with considerations for certification under Islamic religious law. The industry lacks a unified Islamic banking authority although several competing associations are working on new regulations concerning Islamic financial accounting, lending standards and bank governance. Bank Al-Jazira has soaring profits, having approximately doubled net income from 2004 and also displays a plaque that announces the bank is in strict adherence to Islamic religious laws.
