Italy's unfinished revolution: the faces have changed, the institutions are still the same

Political corruption scandals have rocked Italy since 1992, and have led to numerous investigations, trials and calls for political reform. However, some smaller parties have blocked needed reforms. A parliamentary commission is considering reforms such as directly electing the prime minister.

A (slightly) new Italian establishment

Article Abstract:

A study of prominent Italian business and political leaders reveals that political corruption and old-style ways are still predominant. Despite rumors that everything had changed and younger, more progressive people were taking over, the study reveals similar demographics to the old regime.

Still sinking: Italy

Article Abstract:

Pres Guiliano Amato has lost public support by proposing an amnesty package for officials who confess corruption and pay back money stolen. Several referendums to be voted on Apr 18 are also discussed, including one about campaign finance.
