Company focus: Owens Corning building Products (UK)

Article Abstract:

Owens Corning Building Products (UK) is a major manufacturer of insulation products suitable for all applications. It pioneered the use of fiberglass in the US nearly 60 years ago, and it currently offers glass wool, rock wool and foams in its range. The company has turnover of about 80 million pounds sterling in the UK, and it is continually developing new products. It also has plans for expansion into total exterior insulation and weatherproofing systems. A number of its products are listed with some detail about their applications.

Company focus: the H S Hansen Group

Article Abstract:

HS Hansen Group set up its UK operations in 1986 to look at opportunities for commercial fenestration in the country. Hans Kolby, chairman, has plans to consolidate existing businesses and diversify further into passive fire security systems and performance glazing. Details are given about the company's main products such as steel performance doorsets, glazed fire doors and screens and curtain wall and windows for commercial applications. The company is developing a range of fire-resistant glasses and curtain walling.

Walter Ritchie, artist and sculptor of brick

Article Abstract:

Walter Ritchie, a sculptor, who died recently, was a public of Eric Gill and much of his work was extremely religious or erotic. Ritchie was critical of the commercialised art world and he believed that people should think for themselves and set their own standards of judgement and taste. He felt that sculpture should be encountered in everyday life and not just viewed be in art galleries. The majority of his work is on or in buildings and includes St Christopher in Monks Park stone and Flight to Egypt in bricks.
