It's a buy-in, but not as we know it

Article Abstract:

Management buyouts and buy-ins increased in importance between 1985 and 1994, with 30 buy-ins in 1985 and 139 in 1994, and 262 buoyouts in 1985 and 398 in 1994. The south east of England is becoming less important as a focus for these activities, and the West Midlands region has continued to expand. Pure buyins may not achieve as much as a combination of buyouts and buy-ins, or BIMBOs. Existing management can contribute their expertise and this is attractive to venture capital companies.

The world stops at Coventry

Article Abstract:

Coventry, West Midlands, England, saw a decline in its stake in management buyout activity in the region during the late 1980s when acquisitions increased due to the boom. There appear to be more deals carried out in locations away from the south east of England, by mid 1995, and larger deals are being carried out in the West Midlands with the aid of local venture capitalist companies. The trend of decline in buyouts appears to have been reversed in the West Midlands by 1995.
