Shaping up for the millenium

Article Abstract:

The West Midlands, England, is building strength as a center for both finance and industry and is emerging from the 1990s recession through benefiting from an increase in exports. Local manufacturing industry has seen rises in productivity and the electronics sector has expanded. The insurance, banking and acountancy activities of Birmingham employ more people than anywhere in the UK save for London. There is a need for investment if this positive trend is to continue.
