Jayshree Tea & Industries Ltd's (JTIL) crore business is tea and it manages 15 tea gardens. It also has interest in plywood, superphosphates, sulphuric acid, tubes, tyres and real estate. A major part of the company's tea is sold at auctions. They are also sold in polypouches under the brand names of Sadabahar, Shaandar and Sangam. JTIL is expected to continue to fare well due to strong international tea prices and a growing domestic demand. A majority of JTIL's tea estates are in the North and tea from the northern estates fetch better prices. The company's bottomline for 1997-98 has improved by about Rs50 million from its real estate and plywood business. About 92 percent of the company's equity comprises of equity made up of bonus shares. Its scrip is currently quoted at Rs212. KALASA TEA BREWS 46% HIGHER NET PROFIT

Article Abstract:

The Kalasa Tea and Produce Company Ltd has posted a 64 percent increase in sales and 46 percent increase in its net profit for 1997-98. It has posted a net profit of Rs0.86 crore on a net sales of Rs4.47 crore in 1997-98. In 1996-97, it had posted a net profit of Rs0.59 crore on a net sales of Rs2.72 crore. Its tea production increased by 7 percent to 6.12 lakh kg in 1997-98 from 5.72 lakh kg in 1996-97. (rk)
