Japan will aim to soften impact of high oil prices: package will include kerosene subsidies, easing of loan terms

Article Abstract:

The Japanese government is implementing an economic package aimed at providing relief from increasing oil prices. The package includes easing of government loan repayment conditions for small and midsize firms, and will provide funds to airlines and bus companies affected by the high cost of oil. The package is being financed by tax revenue shifted from Japan's national government to its regional governments.

Energy-smart Japanese firms gain an edge as oil costs surge

Japan's manufacturing industries have been growing under energy conservation policies of the 1970's. With soaring petroleum and energy costs these Japanese companies are now on the leading edge. In the longterm this could translate into improved competitiveness and increased market share.

'Cool Biz' campaign refreshes coffers of Japan's retail stores

An energy policy of Japan to save energy and lessen air-conditioning costs by wearing more casual business dress is having the side effect of increasing retail sales as businessmen go shopping for summer wear. The energy policy buzz is "Cool Biz".
