Oil giants face new competition for future supply

Article Abstract:

Petroleum industry giants are facing new competition from smaller competitors as oil reserves are becoming more difficult to replenish with new oil field discoveries increasingly difficult to find. The petroleum sector is experiencing soaring oil prices and high global demand resulting in record profits. Crude oil prices since 2001 have nearly doubled, to close at $50.37 a barrel as of yesterday.

To cut pollution, Dutch pay a dump in Brazil to clean up

Article Abstract:

The Netherlands has a deal with a landfill site in Nova Iguacu, Brazil to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by using new technology that involves columns to capture methane. This deal is part of the enactment of the Kyoto Protocol on greenhouse gas emissions using "credits" and in theory reducing global warming.

Exxon softens climate-change stance: hoping to shape policy, oil giant joins dialogue on curbing of emissions

Article Abstract:

Exxon Mobil Corp., once a strong opponent of government emissions controls, has changed its position, and wants to be involved in formulating policy. The United States is expected to introduce emissions control rules in an attempt to control global warming.
