NEC sets sights on Europe

Article Abstract:

Japan-based NEC Corp. is considering tie-ups with European Internet service providers AOL Europe and France Telecom SA's subsidiary Wanadoo. A deal with AOL Europe may involve NEC taking an equity stake in the company. NEC hopes to list on the New York Stock Exchange sometime in 2001.

Japanese bond prices run risk of fall on fundamentals

Article Abstract:

Analysts predict the vulnerability of Japanese bond prices even as the Bank of Japan and the Ministry of Finance continue to win in their battle against rising interest rates. The strategy involves keeping bond prices buoyant since a decline in bond prices is tantamount to an interest rate increase. As a result, the bond market has registered one of its strongest rallies with the yield falling to 1.805% from 1.880%.
