Jimmy Lai gives the Hong Kong set the low-down

Article Abstract:

Hong Kong's youngest newspaper has a hold on the number 2 spot because of its unconvenationality. The Apple Daily, which was only launched in 1995, has been successful because it combines sensationalized news with the latest in electronic gadgets, trendy restaurants and a section on the best buys. Publisher Jimmy Lai attributes his newspaper's strong showing to his attention to consumer desires and not giving in to the dictates of conventional wisdom. In addition, Lai added that he simply filled in a gap among Hong Kong's middle-class that went unnoticed by the competition.
