Justice for Jews, 50 years late

Article Abstract:

Claims for the restitution of property taken from Jews during the second world war are now affecting almost every country in which Hitler's armies were active, and some where they were not. Those investigating this issue are now gaining access to documents that permit them to establish claims to property in countries including France and Austria. Investigations are also being made into what happened to money entrusted by Jews to banks in countries including Switzerland, Sweden and Portugal.

First - and second class Jews

Article Abstract:

Binyamin Netanyahu has been successful in orchestrating the ouster of his biggest cabinet critic and the pacification of Orthodox and non-Orthodox Judaism. The ouster came in a series of rebukes given to Finance minister Dan Meridor and the pacification of Judaism interpretations came in the form of allowing non-Orthodox converts to be registered with restrictions applying only, and practiced, by civil registrars.

Long shadows

Article Abstract:

European immigrants in the US have brought a case against European insurers Allianz and Generali for unpaid World War II damage claims. The insurers claim that the claims have been settled by their respective governments but it seems unlikely that American courts would side with the insurers. An early settlement to the case is also unlikely and so is likely to also involve German banks.
