Keeping former expatriates from China within the fold

Article Abstract:

Experts are recommending two positive approaches that CEOs of multinational corporations may apply to keep their managers within the fold and maintain market strength in China. First, they have to make China a manager's stepping stone to the corporate ladder while creating a number of managerial positions in the home country. Second, they have to offer their former overseas managers positions that will allow for autonomy and independence.

'The Peony Pavilion' brings ancient China to operagoers

Article Abstract:

The popular Chinese opera "The Peony Pavilion", will be staged at the Lincoln Center Festival in 1998 by the Shanghai Kunju Company under the direction of Chen Shizheng in commemoration of the work's 400th anniversary. The 55-act, 20-hour opera, which was composed by writer Tang Xianzu in the 16th century, provides viewers with an image of Chinese society during the Song and Ming Dynasties during the Mongol invasion.
