Kirsch, Berlusconi agree to form television alliance

Article Abstract:

Leo Kirch, the German media magnate, and Silvio Berlusconi, the former prime minister of Italy, have reached an agreement to form a television alliance. The alliance will value KirchMedia KGaA at 5.6 billion euros ($6.14 billion). It would also establish a joint television holding firm. Under the terms of the deal, Fininvest SpA, which is owned by Mr. Berlusconi, and Saudi investor Prince al-Waleed bin Talal will acquire 3.2% shares in KirchMedia for 192 million euros each by way of a capital increase.

ProSieben to start news channel in 2000

Article Abstract:

ProSieben Media AG announced that it will launch a 24-hour news channel in Germany in 2000. The move signal ProSieben's entry into the saturated German all news-television market. The new channel will compete with N-TV, a market leader. The new channel will be called N24 Gesellschaft fuer Nachrichten und Zeitgeschehen mbH. The channel will focus on the expanding market for business information.
